Secular Serenity Prayer Art Print
by Cass Carosello | Society6
Though this prayer has been adopted as the main mantra for recovering alcoholics/addicts (recited in AA meetings and such, I believe), I have decided to make it my own as well. I was recently given this secular version (original begins as “God, grant me…”) by my therapist since I am not religious, nor do I believe in any sort of higher power. And I have decided to live by it.
Anyone can and should adopt this as their mantra. I created a print for myself, though others may choose to buy one (promo moment: Society6 is currently having a $5 off deal + free worldwide shipping), or you can honestly just write this out however way you want. Scribble it on a post-it and stick it to your mirror, look at it every morning when you get up and every night before going to sleep.
Remember that you can’t control the world. You can’t control what other people say, think, or do. You can’t make people love you or hate you. You can’t control anything or anyone but yourself. You can decide how to think and feel, how to react to the world. Don’t be afraid to live your life the way you want to, because really, it’s all yours and only yours. Realize how great you are and what you’re capable of, and learn to be proud of who you are.
